Polarization, it’s everywhere. Light and darkness, negative and positive particles, batteries; it’s a must within the cosmos. How can we recognize health if we were never sick? How can we appreciate strengths without weaknesses? Polarization is necessary for life. Come to think of it, polarization is also what makes a movie great. Movies like Star Wars, Rocky, The Cinderella Man, Avatar, and Rudy all have this common theme; the rise of the underdog.
Evil tries to prevail over good and good tries to prevent evil, the wrestling match never ends. And if you haven’t noticed, the “Dark Side” always has all the cool people. It seems to have all the right moves. Evil is always far more attractive, not to mention lucrative. Good? Well, it tries.
What about politics? Is it any different than the atom? The answer is no. The same opposing forces are in play. Good and evil intentions fight for their rights to prevail.
The evil politicians have all the glitz, gold, and girls. They have the off-shore bank accounts, cocaine, and fast cars. The good people? Well, they drive a Crown Victoria and actually try to make a difference for the people. Will they prevail? No. They never do. They either get chewed up and spit out or they fall to the dark side. This is how it works. It’s the way it’s always been. So, you might ask, where’s the win?
The win is in the not giving up. It’s in getting up every morning and making the biggest difference you can within the world you have influence in. It’s understanding that when it’s all said and done, you did your best to make an impact . . . a difference. And when the last curtain calls, you can relax in the fact that you never compromised your integrity. That’s the reward.
Like Rudy, we are carried off the field of life over the heads of those who have gone before us. Whatever is on the other side, if anything, we hope it’s rooted in justice and reciprocity. And if not, we gave a hell-of-a fight for what we believed in. So keep believing. Keep living. Keep going. In the end you’ll be glad you did.
